So, here I sit at Gate 6 JFK Terminal 1 in the "cattle pen", with the rest of the folks waiting for EVA flight 31 to Taipei, Taiwan. Damn! None of the Priority Pass lounges are open at this late hour. It's 10:20 PM. KAL Business Class lounge closed at 8:30 PM. Of course I could go into Air France's lounge when it opens at 11, but we are supposed to start boarding at 11:50; hardly makes it worth doing. Oh well, stop complaining Frank, you're lucky to be here headed to Hanoi as it is! Yeah, final destination, outbound that is, is Vietnam. Going as a tourist this time!
So, how and why Vietnam? Well, just when I thought I wasn't going any where for awhile, AFAR magazine, of which I am a charter subscriber, sends me an email stating they are starting to do overseas photography workshops and the first one is to Vietnam. This is exciting! Anyone who knows me knows I love the orient and to be able to go back and see some of this country almost 50 years after I last left it is an amazing opportunity. And I am going to see parts of it I never dreamed of seeing.
Plus they are sending a Nikon Ambassador, Joey Terrill, as our instructor! Then they really go over the top and lend us a Nikon D850 and a 28-300 Nikon zoom to boot for us to use during the entire trip!!
Well, gotta go, they are starting to board.
